More Good News for California Home Construction and Jobs

A new jobs report brings more good news for the California economy, which will likely translate into continued improvement in our real estate markets.

April saw a large increase in construction jobs, which are now up by almost 45,000 – representing a 7.7 percent year-over-year increase, the latest report from the state Employment Development Department said. There’s also been a surge in residential permits so far in 2013.

Some Home Features More Important Than Others, NAR Survey Finds

Central air conditioning ranks at the top of a list of home features most valued by buyers. A survey by the National Association of Realtors found that the next most-important feature was a walk-in closet in the master bedroom.

U.S. home prices are expected to rise at an annual rate of 3.9 percent through 2017; the national inventory of homes inched up 4 percent month over month in April as the buying season picked up, but fell 13.5 percent from a year earlier; and April housing starts fell 16.5 percent from March numbers, but requests for new building permits jumped to a nearly five-year high.

Confidence in Rising Home Prices Tops 50%

An April housing survey by Fannie Mae found that 51 percent of Americans expect home prices to climb at least 3 percent over the next year, a big jump in confidence from a year ago, when only 32 percent were optimistic prices would rise.
